David Duchovny has revealed that he always wanted The Simpsons to appear in The X-Files.

The actor, who plays Fox Mulder, came up with the idea after he and co-star Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) provided their voices for a 1997 episode of the cartoon.

Duchovny told WENN: "The Simpsons should have come on our show. I had an idea around the seventh or eighth year and thought we should try a Roger Rabbit-style episode, where they crossed real folk and animation.

"We could do Homer comes to the FBI and deals with cartoon characters. I still feel it's a good idea."

'The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening has confirmed that he is planning a sequel to last summer's 'The Simpson's Movie'.

Groening, who was speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, said however that a second feature film could take several years to make as the show's production team are not keen on taking on the extra work load.

Groening said: "It will happen at some point, but I have no idea when. The first one took us four years - mainly because we don't like to work any harder than we usually do. We'll get to it, I'm sure."

Last year 'The Simpsons Movie' grossed more than $500m at the worldwide box office.

The Simpson's Ride at Universal Studios takes up a large section of the park, almost making it Simpsons-land. The exterior section is carnival-barker-themed, and as Sideshow Bob warns, "Silly Simpsons. Don't you know every ride has to end by the gift shop?" The Kwik E Mart gift shop sadly does not sell Squishees (or those hideous pink donuts) but it is fun to browse around in anyways.

Creator and executive producer Matt Groening and other key behind-the-scenes members of The Simpsons production staff previewed the series' upcoming record setting 20th season at today's San Diego Comic-Con.

Speaking to a packed ballroom of hundreds of fans, Groening led a panel that included executive producer and head writer Al Jean, executive producer Matt Selman, co-executive producer Michael Price, co-executive producer Matt Warburton, consulting producer Don Payne, consulting producer Carolyn Omine, supervising director Mike Anderson and movie and TV series director David Silverman.
